Food Assistance

Mid-South Food Bank -distributes food to needy families and individuals through community partners. Various food banks are available based on your location. Bring ID, some locations require social security cards for everyone in the family, including children. See website for specific requirements.

First Congregation Church – 1000 S. Cooper Street, Memphis, TN. Contact (901) 278-6786. Clients do not need a referral voucher. Food Pantry Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Weekday lunch program, Monday-Friday from 11:00am-1:00pm.

Catholic Charities – Distributes Food Boxes and Food Bags at various locations, see website for full list of locations. Must bring ID

MIFA – assists with four food vouchers per year. Must apply online at www.mifa.org/applyonline and participants will be matched with the closest food pantry to their home. Monday – Friday 7:30am-10:30am

The Commons on Merton – 258 N. Merton Street, Memphis. Food pantry every Tuesday and Thursday 8a-11am. Only requirement is to bring ID.

Leawood Baptist Church Mission Center – 3638 Macon Road. Contact (901)328-1025. Open Monday and Wednesday 9am-12pm. Three day supply given, based on family size. Need proof of residency for everyone in the family. Services only specific zip codes: 38128, 38122, 38112, and 38108

Good Grief Counseling Services – 326 Ellsworth, Memphis, 38111, contact (901)861-5656. Locations in Collierville & Jonesboro AR.

Housing Assistance and Rent/Utilities Assistance

The Hospitality Hub – for homeless and imminently homeless clients. 82 N. Second Street, Memphis, TN Intake is done Monday – Friday 9:30-1:30pm, walk-ins accepted. Resource and referral center to other social services providers and organizations as well to provide long-term solutions to problems with housing/employment/drug and alcohol addiction.

Memphis Union Mission – 383 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN. Emergency shelter 365 days per year, check-in between 9am-2pm. Also has various programs for transitional housing individuals and families. (901)526-8403

Fayette Cares Transitional Housing 13300 N. Main Street, Somerville, TN. Emergency shelter as well as affordable supportive transitional housing for Fayette County residents. (901)465-3802

MIFA – 910 Vance Avenue, Memphis, TN. Rent assistance for unexpected loss of income in the last 90 days, must live in Memphis, utility assistance is also available.

Shelby County Community Services Agency – comprehensive emergency assistance program, appointments only, NO WALK-INS. Appointment line (901)222-4232

Healthcare Services

Tenncare – health insurance to low income children, pregnant women, parents of minor children, the elderly and people with disablities. Apply in person at any DHS office in any county in Tennessee, or directly over the phone at 1-800-318-2596

Christ Community Health Services – Six locations offering medical and dental care, no insurance needed. Fees based on income. (901)842-3160

Church Health Center – 1350 Concourse Avenue, Suite 142, Memphis, TN. Provides healthcare for the working uninsured. (901)272-0003

Memphis Health Center – Four locations in Shelby and Fayette Counties, provides healthcare for medically underserved populations, accepts Tenncare, Medicare, and Medicaid. (901)261-2000

The MedPlex – 880 Madison Avenue, Memphis, TN. Multi-specialty care along with diagnostic imaging, laboratory, and pharmacy on site. Many services provided through a collaborative working relationship with the University of Tennessee Residency Program and the UT Medical Group faculty physicians. A Step Ahead Foundation – provides women of Memphis and Shelby County with FREE long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) with the goal of preventing unplanned pregnancies. (901)320-7837

Education/Job Assistance & Training

The Excel Center (with Goodwill Industries) – 1490 Norris Road. Free Charter High School for Shelby County residents age 18 and older who need to complete the requirements to earn a high school diploma. Offers on-site child care and transportation is available. American Job Center – 155 Angelus, Memphis, TN. Offers job seekers with assessments, resume development and coaching, interview prep, job search assistance, worker training. Free access to computers, printers, fax, copier and phone to help look for a job. (901)707-8426 Monday through Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm.
